June 28, 2007 – The Alaskan Highway – Day 2

The highway this morning – isn’t this incredible!

Our first stop was Fort Nelson to get more fresh water, dump our tanks, and get more mosquito repellent – there are LOTS of BITING bugs here!!

From Fort Nelson, we are crossing the Rockies again. This crossing will be over 200 miles – WOW. The scenery is unbelievable. There are so many times today that we feel like we are dreaming.

We saw Stone Mountain sheep today:

How about those babies!! (We had to wait until a number of them crossed the road.)

And MOOSE!! – These two were in pond on the side of the road – How incredible is this:

There are many pullouts here to stop and enjoy the view and at many of them we see the same people. Andy met a fellow ham operator this morning (Bob) and we traveled with him for a while. We met another couple this afternoon, Les and Colleen, and traveled with them for a while also.

We camped tonight at Muncho Lake Provincial Park – MacDonald Campground. Les and Colleen joined us at the adjacent site.

Check this out – pictures from our site:

The lake water colors of deep green and deep blue are due to the copper oxide leaking out into the lake.

And the evening was finished with a wonderful campfire with this incredibly beautiful scenery surrounding us. We were joined by Les and Colleen – they are from a small town above Ottawa.
