By the time this is posted, the holiday will be over – I hope that you all had a great time.

On the 4th, we just hung out at home.  We both did some things around the motorhome and then got caught up with my blog and pictures.  I am almost out of data for this cycle so the blog will be posted on the new cycle or when we get WIFI.

This evening, we had a front row seat for the fireworks – we were in the middle of all of them.  They started about 8:30 PM and lasted for a few hours.  The main show at the Rodeo Grounds started at 9 and ended at 10.  Then the smaller groups continued for another hour – it was AWESOME.  We have been to the Lake Havasu Pyro Conference which was the king of all fireworks.  But I have to say, for a small town, they did an AWESOME display – some sections rivaled Lake Havasu.  Great show!

My kitties, on the other hand, had a hard night – poor babies.  They were troopers and pulled through.  Smile

Today, Saturday, 5th, was the normal laundry, grocery, clean up, etc. kind of day.

Tomorrow we are heading north so stay tuned and enjoy today.

February 19, 2012 – Windows, Cards, and Winter Blast

 Windows – Foggy – Yuck!

Our Bounder has double pane windows and a number of them have leaked and are dirty.  The critical ones for us are the side ones – driver and passenger – where we need to look out for the side mirrors.  We have checked a number of places and the cost was really high.  So when a note was posted on the Boomer Board about a gentleman who does it reasonably we had to check it out.   Both Mark and Chuck were having their windows done so when Joe showed up to do Mark’s we talked with him and were able to get those two windows done at a great price.  (Thanks Mark and Chuck for finding this guy.)

His name is Joe Colvin – 602-505-3802 - http://www.autoglassboss.com/

Our window is being repaired:

About 2, a bunch of us met here at the table and Dick taught us to play Anaconda (or Chase the Ace).  We laughed and played and laughed some more – and this great scenery and weather all around us – WOW!

And this evening we were off again to the last night of Winter Blast.

This is an anvil and check out the video:

How funny – :-)).

And the last of the videos:

We have had wonderful time here at the Steps  - the fireworks, the birthday party, the weather, but most of all seeing old friends and meeting new ones.

Tomorrow we are heading to Emerald Cove for a few weeks so stay tuned.

February 18, 2012 – Ed’s Birthday Party and Winter Blast

Another one of the reasons we are here is for Ed’s Birthday Party.  Meet Ed/Duane:

02-18-2012 Duane

This is funny story.  A few years ago while here at the Steps, Betty wanted to have a surprise party for Duane.  She was having a hard time finding a birthday cake at the local grocery stores.  One store did have a sheet cake however it was for Ed who had died.  They gave it to her for half price and every year since then, the Boomers have been celebrating Ed’s/Duane’s Birthday.  How Funny.  This year’s cake:

Betty and Duane made hotdogs for all and the rest of us supplied the other food – Another great time.

And this evening more AWESOME fireworks:

Enjoy today.

February 17, 2012 – Geocaching and Fireworks

A good day for a walk in the desert – :-):

We found out that there was a geocache about .4 miles away so off we went.

Bob, Gretchen, Andy, Don, Glenda – starting our trek:

The wildflowers are blooming:

And cacti all over:

We are still marching along:

More cool cacti:

YEA!  We found it:

Well, we got so excited we said “Let’s find another.”  Turns out, my tablet and Gretchen’s phone told us there was one only .7 miles away.  So off we went:

Cactus on the side of the hill – they are hardy:

More flowers – what a contrast on the desert floor:

And the road goes on:

We have to go where?

02-17-12 Geocaching at the Steps 042

Finally!  Turns out that it was .7 miles as the crow files.  And we had to go around quite a few hills not up and over.  The boys coming back from the cache:

Break time:

We decided to make our way to the highway but then we still had over a mile to go – :-):

Almost there:

What a great hike – but we did learn a lot more about reading our GPS and tablet.

After a rest and supper, off we went to the Winter Blast.

Oh MY and more OH MY!  Awesome! Breathtaking!   There are no words to describe it.  It was like the Grand Finale over and over again.    Here is a video of some of it.  Now just imagine this going on for almost an hour – WOW!  And before and after the public show, there were hours of fireworks – some good some not – Cool.

Another great day – we are so blessed!

February 16, 2012 The Steps and Winter Blast

We woke to a beautiful morning and decided to take a walk to the top of both of the hills surrounding us.  The pictures are not in order – just so I could tell the story.

Here we are – second from the left:

02-16-12 The Steps 040

Our first hike was to the top of this hill – notice the steps:

02-16-12 The Steps 016

02-16-12 The Steps 017

Check out the motorhome at the top – what a view – that is Lake Havasu in the distance:

02-16-12 The Steps 035

Now I am not sure what the story of this property is – I have heard there was a mine and this was part of the reclamation.  Another story is that a developer bought it, then ran out of money.  Anyway we can camp here for free – isn’t that great!

The second hike was to the top of the flat hill on the right:

02-16-12 The Steps 003

And the pictures from above – most RVs are from the Boomer group and the SOLO group (both Escapee sub groups):

02-16-12 The Steps 038

We met Glenda and Don at the top of the first hill and the four of us went to the top of the second where we met up with Ken and Jo – :-).

Some other shots from along the way:

Cacti grow in the most amazing places:

02-16-12 The Steps 026

And the hills go on forever:

(02-16-12 The Steps 027

Tomorrow we went up that road –:-) - see next blog:

02-16-12 The Steps 030

What a great walk.

After Happy Hour, Gloria, Frank, Andy and I went into the Winter Blast where we met Judy and Luke.

So what is Winter Blast, you ask – :-).  Well, every February in Lake Havasu City, the Western Pyrotechnics Association hold their annual Convention and Fireworks Show.  They have seminars, trade shows, pyrotechnic supply vending and open shooting and shows.  And the public enjoy the open shooting and shows.

So today was amateur night open shooting – a little disappointing for us but we will see what tomorrow’s show brings.

Stay tuned.
