September 18, 2022 Travel to Council Idaho and an OH NO!

(Note and FYI:  Many of the travel pictures that I take are done at 70 mph out the front windshield or the side window in a very bouncy truck.  Some/many may not have clarity, however, I post them for me and for you so I can record what that part of the country looks like and for my memory.)

This morning we continued our journey west and north in Idaho.

Those skies!:

We went thru Council and had our friend’s Sue’s address.   But..we didn’t do the right thing and ended up in the ditch.  Yikees!

The picture above is without the car attached.  When we went into the ditch the car was attached – oh my, what a mess.

We did not have cell service and one of Sue’s neighbors came by and told us to call 911.  Apparently, if you have GPS and location is on and call 911, your location is transmitted to the local 911 center (even if you cannot talk with them).  A sheriff showed up quickly as well as Fire and Rescue and traffic was routed around us.  The sheriff called the tow truck and we waited.

In the meantime, I called Sue and sort of got thru but garbled and then the signal dropped.  She looked down her driveway and saw us.  She came running down and her son, Scott, came down to help.

Oh my!  It was emotional for us all.  The “Big” tow truck arrived and got us out.  (I will say this.. the tow truck driver had no clue what to do and I will be forever grateful to Scott, Andy, and one of the Fire Rescue folks who guided the driver and to Sue who gave me emotional support.)

Is the motor home ok? Yes, Andy had to do some rebuilding of the hitch but so far so good.

What an ending to an emotional day.

It is so good to see Sue.  We met her and her husband Bruce in 2009 in Talkeetna Alaska and stayed in touch every since.  Plus in the years that I still traveled, we met up many times and traveled together.  We just love these folks.  However, Bruce passed away last year and we really miss him.

I have not seen Sue since I came off the road in 2016 so I am looking forward to this week.

I will not have daily updates but will update at the end of our week stay.  So until then, enjoy today!

(Note:  This blog is picture intensive! Enjoy!)

Yesterday was a much needed day of rest and I am so so glad we took time off.  This morning we were up and after securing everything, dumping what needed to be dumped and filling what needed to be filled, we were off heading west.  Some parts of today were smoky or hazy or stormy or all three.

Western part of Wyoming:

Can I say WOW again?

We landed at Mountain Home, ID Elks Lodge.  When we pulled in, an outdoor wedding just started near the RV area.  So we turned everything off (diesels can be loud) until the wedding was over.  This lodge has electric, with water and dump available.

After hooking up, we stopped inside for a drink and chatted with the bartender.  They were not serving any food so we picked up a pizza nearby and relaxed for the rest of the night.  There is a railroad crossing across from the Elks but the train horns were quiet until about 5AM.

We continue our journey tomorrow so stay tuned and enjoy today.
