June 23, 2013 Travel to Lethbridge

We woke to cloudy skies and light rain.  After packing up, we stopped to fill our water tank; stopped at the Chamber visitor center to use their dump station and then off we went heading south.

The flooding in Calgary and High River continues.  According to the news, this is the worst flood in their history - so sad.  Please keep all those affected in your prayers.

The main highway through Calgary was open - oh my, the rivers were still high.

The High River area - the town was completely shut down:

We found out that our friends, Don and Glenda, were managing a campground in Okotoks (south of Calgary).  We chatted yesterday and met for lunch at the truck stop in Aldesyde.  Their campground has been completely flooded and they were evacuated to higher ground.  We also saw many RV’s at the truck stop - evacuees from Okotoks.  Oh my.

We did have a great time with Don and Glenda (I forgot to take a pictures, sorry) and if it weren’t for the flooding, I think we would have stayed a few days.  Next time and hopefully we will see them in Arizona this winter.

After lunch we continued our journey to Lethbridge:

We arrived in Lethbridge to spend time with our friends Lynne and Fred.  The campground where we were going to stay was under water so they got permission for us to stay in their parking/RV storage area - thank you so much Lynne and Fred.

Once we got set up, we went to supper and then back to their place - getting caught up with each other.  What fun!

We made a short stop in Lethbridge to exchange currency and we continued north.  We noticed that there was many “ponds” in the fields and the rivers were high.

We arrived at Anthony Henday Campground in Innisfail.  Once we set up we called Kay and Norval and found out that there is extensive flooding all thru southern Alberta Sad smile.  We just made it through before some of the roads were closed.

Please keep all those folks affected by the floods in your prayers.

After supper, we headed over to Kay and Norval’s for desert.  It was so good to see them again.  We met them in January 2010 at Quartzsite and stayed in touch every since.  Norval has had some health problems and they are currently not traveling so this year we made the decision to stop by and spend some time with them.

Life is good!
