November 5 - 7, 2021 A Short Reset

Every once in a while we need to stop, do laundry, clean up, reorganize, etc.  And that is what we have been doing the last three days.

On Friday, we left Big Bone Lick State Park and headed south.  We arrived in Park City, Kentucky early afternoon.  Both Andy and I worked on a couple little jobs that needed to be done around the motorhome.

Miles Traveled:  183.8

Routes Traveled:

Kentucky: KY-338; KY-42; KY-338; I-75; I-71; I-265; I-65; Mammoth Cave Parkway

Saturday was spent doing laundry – there was a great place in Cave City.  Very clean but a little pricy.  When we got home, I found that one of the kitties had been sick – over the afghans and blankets.  So off to the laundry again!  While I was out, I stopped at the local Walmart – busy and all the shelves were packed.  I have not seen that in a long time.  Stopped at the gas station on the way back – $2.98 per gallon.

The rest of yesterday and today (Sunday), I spent getting caught up on bills, mail and reorganizing.

On Friday, we crossed over to Central Time and had to set the clocks back.  On Sunday, we set the clocks back another hour to standard time.  Sooo we are also getting use to a 2 hour difference.

My kitties (who do not understand time changes):

Bella – my little one that is always eating:

Dusty and Gray (with the white markings) – doing what they do best:

AWWW.  Aren’t they cute!

Some day I may do a blog on each of them.

Tomorrow we are off to Nashville for a week so stay tuned.

Enjoy today!

November 4, 2021 Big Bone Lick State Historic Site

When we first made reservations here it was because it was halfway between the Ark Encounter and the Creation Museum.  After going back and forth the past few days, we decided to find out why this was historic and special.

Well there are a couple of reasons why this park is important:

- Salt Springs – The salt springs for the last 10,000 years have attracted wildlife, then became kill sites for Paleolithic hunters then because a resort where people came to bask in the area’s “mineral waters.”

- Bison – The park maintains a small bison herd as a living link to the park’s prehistoric past.

- The park is part of the Lewis and Clark Trail.

- Today it still is a place of research and discovery for paleontologists, and archaeologists.

Yes, I copied that but I do have pictures.

We started out at the Visitor Center and Museum where we saw this Giant Sloth:

And the Bison:

Information on the Salt:

From there we took the trail to the Pleistocene Megafauna Diorama.  The animals came to the springs for the water and the salt.  Some times they went into the mud and did not survive.  Other times, they may have been killed for food.

We followed the trail to the salt springs:

And then followed the trail to the Bison Herd.

November 3, 2021 Creation Museum

When I first checked into seeing the Ark Encounter, it was recommended that we also see the Creation Museum.  So today, that is exactly what we did.

About the museum:

“At the heart of the Creation Museum is a chronological retelling of biblical history in seven parts called the Seven C´s. Guests step back in time, beginning with Creation, and fast-forward to Christ´s return. Along the way, they see how God´s Word provides the big-picture answers for our most difficult questions, whether about science, the Bible, or our personal relationship with God.”

We arrived and walked thru the forest to the museum:

This big guy greeted us at the entrance:

We entered thru a hallway that contained many storyboards on Dragons, Dinosaurs, and the mention of them in the Old Testament.

The hallway opened up to this big area where we were greeted by the replica of a mastodon that was found in Ohio in 1989.  He was huge.

We watched a video in the theater called “6 Days” about the creation.  Special effects were amazing.

I am going to stop here and talk about two things.  1 -  The presentations, movies, storyboards and set ups were amazing and beautiful. 2 – All were shown in the light of Evolution vs Creation.  (For me it was too controversial.)

The Garden of Eden:

The tower of Babel display – Beautiful.

There was an incredible storyboard and presentation of conception thru birth.  Each stage looked so real..

We ended with another video, “The Last Adam.”  Awesome!

So my recommendation is see the Ark Encounter – well worth it.  If you go to the Creation Museum, look at it with an open mind.  And if you are old like us, don’t do both two days in a row.. So much information.

We made a few stops on the way home and relaxed the rest of the night.

Tomorrow we are hanging out at the park so stayed tuned and enjoy today.

November 2, 2021 The Ark Encounter

The Ark Encounter has been on my bucket list for a few years so when I decided to start traveling again, we just had to go.

All I can say is WOW! WOW! WOW!

We arrived in the parking lot not too long after it opened, paid our fees (BTW, if you go, they give senior discounts and senior/military discounts) and then boarded the bus.

About a half mile from the parking lot, the bus dropped us off at the Answer Center where we saw the video “New Beginning” about Shem’s wife recalling life before, during and after the flood.

Once the movie ended, we headed to the Ark.  This is what we saw as we left the building. WOW!

2021-11-02 Ark Encounter (7)

It was HUGE.  As we walked to the entrance, there were a number of topiary animals – it looked like the animals walking to the Ark.

As we got closer, it was mind boggling:

The entrance:

We entered on Deck 1:

And can I say WOW again!

Each deck (3) was an education.  There were numerous story boards, examples, and biblical references.  Each deck had a continuous show about the building of the real Ark (interviews with Noah) or about the Bible and the references to the Ark.

I have taken a ton of pictures and have tried to condense them to give you an idea of what it was like.

While putting together the Ark, they tried to get as much information from the Bible and from references on the cultural from that time.

This is what greeted us when we first walked in – the small animal area and food/grain storage.

There was quite a few story boards on the systems that may have been used for housing, feeding, watering, and removing waste.  Very interesting

This was very interesting to me.  I did not even think about “kinds”:

Noah’s family area:

There are many interpretations on how long Noah spent on the Ark, but most agree it was a year or less.  This is how he knew the waters were receding.:

We spent quite a few hours going from deck to deck and taking advantage of all the displays.  What an AWESOME place.

Our view as we left:

No matter what your beliefs are I HIGHLY RECOMMEND visiting.  It is truly a work of art and an incredible learning experience.

On our way home, we stopped at the local pub and grill - Boondocks.  Great meal!

Tomorrow we are off to the Creation Museum so stay tuned and enjoy today.
