October 29, 2015 Travel to Cumberland Gap National Historic Park

We woke this morning to cloudy skies and a little sprinkles – where was the sun!  We packed up, emptied our tanks and away we went anyway.

We have been so blessed to be able to see all the color changes as we traveled.  I said that Pennsylvania was the best place to be during the color changes but I have to retract that now.  Anywhere along the Appalachians is just BEATIFUL!

We arrived at Cumberland Gap National Historic Park - Wilderness Campground.

After filling with water we found an electric site and set up.  Two of the loops have electric (30 and 50 amp) and the whole campground is first come, first serve.

If you look at a map, this park is located at the corner of Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky. The campground is in Virginia and the Visitor Center is in Kentucky but you need to go into Tennessee to get to it.  Cool!

After setting up, we went to the visitor, saw two movies, talked to the rangers about tours and hiking, and signed up for the Cave Tour tomorrow.  We took a little tour thru the Historic Town of Cumberland Gap, TN – Cute!  Back home, the sun was out and we finished the day with a great campfire.

We will be here for a few days so stayed tuned and enjoy today!

Stats for today:

Miles Traveled: 93 Miles

Routes Traveled:

Tennessee: Hemlock Drive; I-26; US-11W; US-25E; US-58

Virginia: US-58; Old Wilderness Road

October 26-28, 2015 South to Tennessee and Rainy Days

We woke to a very cloudy morning with a few sprinkles happening.  So we packed up, dumped our tanks, and away we went.

We made our way to Warrior’s Path State Park and decided to stay for three nights.  The remnants of the hurricane will be going thru this area with lots of rain and wind and we have electric, water, TV, internet and stores nearby – all at a reasonable cost.  What more could we want – Smile

She also tries to catch the rain and that is really funny.

Today is Wednesday, 28th, and it has rained the past two days.  We did some things around the motorhome and filled up with supplies.  Tomorrow we will continue our journeys west so stay tuned and enjoy today.
