June 25, 2013 Travel to Havre, Montana

This morning we woke to a beautiful sunny blue sky kind of day (and I truly hope that this is the end of the rain for southern Alberta).

We packed up, said our goodbyes to Lynne and Fred and off we went south to the border.

Past the oil pumpers:

And beautiful horses:

Many old farm buildings:

And to the border crossing.  We gave them our passports, answered a few questions and then were asked to pull over - routine inspection.  The great thing was that the border agent was born in Pennsylvania so we chatted more about PA than anything else.  I did lose one orange even though I purchased it in the U.S.  Oh well.  The last thing he said to us as he left was “Welcome Home.”  Smile

We continued south on I-15:

Trains, Trains, and more trains:

With views like this, no wonder they call Montana “Big Sky Country”:

No sure what this yellow is but it was beautiful:

We arrived in Havre and are staying at the Fairgrounds for a few days.  The rest of the afternoon and evening, I spent on the internet, getting caught up with the blog and emails.  Tomorrow we hope to get caught up with phone calls.

We hope to stay on US-2 until we get to Michigan so stay tuned for our next adventures.

June 24, 2013 Friends and Waterton Lakes National Park

Today we played tourist and Lynne and Fred took us to the Canadian side of Glacier National Park known as Waterton Lakes National Park.  How beautiful!  This is Waterton Lake - the US is on the other side of the lake:

We walked thru the hotel - WOW.  From there we drove through the Waterton Town Site and then out to the falls.  With all this rain, the falls sounded like thunder:

Someday we will be back when the weather is dry - Smile.

We headed back home and enjoyed the rest of the evening.  It has been great to get caught up and hopefully we will see each other in Arizona in the winter season.

Thank you Lynne and Fred for a wonderful time.

June 23, 2013 Travel to Lethbridge

We woke to cloudy skies and light rain.  After packing up, we stopped to fill our water tank; stopped at the Chamber visitor center to use their dump station and then off we went heading south.

The flooding in Calgary and High River continues.  According to the news, this is the worst flood in their history - so sad.  Please keep all those affected in your prayers.

The main highway through Calgary was open - oh my, the rivers were still high.

The High River area - the town was completely shut down:

We found out that our friends, Don and Glenda, were managing a campground in Okotoks (south of Calgary).  We chatted yesterday and met for lunch at the truck stop in Aldesyde.  Their campground has been completely flooded and they were evacuated to higher ground.  We also saw many RV’s at the truck stop - evacuees from Okotoks.  Oh my.

We did have a great time with Don and Glenda (I forgot to take a pictures, sorry) and if it weren’t for the flooding, I think we would have stayed a few days.  Next time and hopefully we will see them in Arizona this winter.

After lunch we continued our journey to Lethbridge:

Love that spaceship - Smile.

We arrived in Lethbridge to spend time with our friends Lynne and Fred.  The campground where we were going to stay was under water so they got permission for us to stay in their parking/RV storage area - thank you so much Lynne and Fred.

Once we got set up, we went to supper and then back to their place - getting caught up with each other.  What fun!

June 20, 2013 - Travel to Innisfail Alberta

Last night we had a terrific storm and the rain was still falling this morning as we packed up and headed north.  This was from the storming coming in last night:

We had a smooth border crossing into Alberta:

We arrived at Anthony Henday Campground in Innisfail.  Once we set up we called Kay and Norval and found out that there is extensive flooding all thru southern Alberta Sad smile.  We just made it through before some of the roads were closed.

Please keep all those folks affected by the floods in your prayers.

After supper, we headed over to Kay and Norval’s for desert.  It was so good to see them again.  We met them in January 2010 at Quartzsite and stayed in touch every since.  Norval has had some health problems and they are currently not traveling so this year we made the decision to stop by and spend some time with them.

Life is good!
