We decided to head out early this morning and try to beat the winds. So after a gas stop, we traveled west on US-70…
Past a Border Patrol Check:
Past the White Sands Missile Range / National Monument:
Where the dunes are coming close to the road:
Past some cool mountains:
Past an offbeat roadside attraction (how appropriate – :-))):
Up and over the hill towards the Las Cruces Valley:
Where there were some cool paintings:
In Las Cruces, we headed north on I-25. We were racing a train north:
More cool mountains:
And the road goes on:
The winds were starting to get really bad on I-25 and my Andy did a great job of keeping us safe. We arrived at Elephant Butte Lake State Park and are staying at the Lions Beach Campground (Thanks Bill and Shelly for the recommendation.)
Here is our site:
Once we got set up, we drove around part of the state park:
And then headed into Truth or Consequences to check out the town – what a cute little place.
The wind continued to pick up so we headed back home and relaxed the rest of the evening. We are hoping to do some exploring while we are here so stay tuned (and hopefully the wind will calm down).
Enjoy today.
Miles Traveled: 143 Miles
Routes Traveled:
New Mexico: Hamilton Road; Panorama Blvd; US-70; I-25; I-25 Business; US-85; SR-171; SR-195
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRUCE!
