December 8, 2008 – Travel to Arkansas

We left Tennessee behind today and traveled down the Mississippi River Delta where we saw some interesting swamps (notice the trees):

Leftover cotton:

The area is very flat and reminds me of some areas of the mid-west. I can’t help wondering if some of these areas are affected by the overflow of the Mississippi.

The Mississippi as we crossed over into Arkansas:

As we left the Mississippi Delta region, we entered the Timberland (Southern) region of Arkansas. Many, many tall trees, lots of farms, but the countryside is still very flat. We did see a number of log trucks and areas where they had timbered and replanted.

The weather is definitely improving – the high today was 70 – Yippee!!

We are camped at a Wal-Mart in Camden, TN and keeping a close eye on the weather – they are calling for severe storms but our location is on the edge of the warning.

We did fill up with gas at $1.459/gallon. It has been a long time since we saw those prices. It is no longer a shock filling the motorhome. And filling the Tracker was only $14.00 – WOW!

I do have to put a plug in here for Citibank card. We filled both vehicles and an hour later received a recorded fraud alert phone call. When we talked with them (using the number on the back of the card), they told us that any gas purchases out of state, puts an alert on the card and they call the customer. What a wonderful service!
