December 30-31, 2023 The End of Another Great Year!

December 30th, 2023

This morning was hang out morning and get caught up on things.

First up was one of my MCD shades.  One of the small ones in the bedroom did not move.  After going thru all the instructions on the internet, I gave up.  Last year, a gentleman in the Foothills fixed one that was just like this so I will call on Tuesday to see if he is still in business (Fingers crossed.)

It was a shade in the bedroom, so I switched it with a shade from the living room since I put curtains in the living room.

We are still not getting internet from our FMCA “unlimited”.  We have 4 bars but 0 internet and right now, no one is there.   I am getting frustrated.  Have been on the forums and I am hearing more and more about being throttled back when you reach a certain limit.  Sadly, FMCA does not let you check where you are without a phone call.  Throttling back I understand but 0 internet!..  hey, what happened to unlimited.   Truly sad since we had no issues last trip and we continue to have issues this trip.  (Plus I recommended them to a lot of folks…)

Our last call over a month ago was that we were being managed because of high volume..   I did tell CS that we were in the middle of nowhere and we did have 4 bars of service.  The call before that is because I was over the limit.  I asked “Wasn’t this unlimited?”  I got the yes but being managed.   I think what frustrates me now is that I have paid $60 for the month and right now I had 2 weeks of no internet.  Hmmm.  Doesn’t sound like managed or unlimited to me…  (I am posting thru my Verizon Hotspot that is limited – and yes, have been aware of that since we got the plan.)

I will call again on Tuesday and see what happens.

On another note:  Has anyone heard of Calyx Internet?

After our chores, was a trip to town.  Checked out two thrift stores – one is no longer in business and the other is closed until Tuesday.  Will have to do some checking next week.   (Yes, thrift stores is another weakness of mine!)

Stopped at Walmart and Fry’s before heading back home.  Very windy today with a lot of dust in the air.  I thought the sunset would be interesting because of the dust.

The reflections above the clouds is because of the dust in the air – very cool!:

What a great time we have had here!  We are relearning boondocking with this new rig and it has been fun.

We will still be in the area so we will be seeing Peg, Larry and Bob next week.

Tomorrow we head to our lot at the SKP Park – Kofa-Koop  so stay tuned and enjoy today.

HAPPY NEW YEAR.  May 2024 be your best year yet!  Thank you for following along with us.

Southwest dust might make for pretty sunsets, but that *dust* might actually carry coccidiosis fungi that causes "Valley Fever" when breathed in. 😭 Don't ignore "flu-like symptoms", excessive fatigue, and coughing in the next few weeks. See a doctor and ask for a cocci blood test!

Calyx Institute is great. We started with a plan a few years ago and upgraded to the 5G plan that costs $750 the first year and $500 afterwards, since the first year pays for the hotspot. It is unlimited and has worked everywhere T-Mobile works. Where T-Mobile does not have service we have used Verizon. In the last two years the places we have not had service are TT Morgan Hill CA, West Glacier MT, Cameron AZ, TT Verde Valley AZ, and Lake Leelanau, MI.

Thank you all!

Judy, thank you. I remember when you got it and all the talks we had. A few years ago when I got sick and could not get over it, that was one of the tests that I had done. Thankfully I was ok..

Bill J, Thank you. Even though there is the upfront costs, it will be cheaper than FMCA in the long run! Will check it out.

I have internet from the Calyx Institute! It works really well wherever there's T-Mobile service, and we've never been throttled while having it. It's truly unlimited. We also have Starlink, which is faster than cell service internet, but it's also a lot more expensive. Happy to answer any questions about Calyx if you have any!
