August 8, 2009 – Ice Worm Hunting

We all just had a lazy morning and then after lunch headed to the visitor center and the museum.  From there we went to the Portage Glacier Overlook. In this picture you can see the top of the glacier on the right and the toe is at the bottom of the mountain on the right.

And from there we took the ranger led hike to Byron Glacier for Ice-Worm Hunting (yes, they do exist).  Our hike starts:

We arrive at the snow field in front of the glacier (yes, there are people sledding on the snow).   Sledding in August – oh my!:

What a wonderful and unique place.

After our hike, we went to Girdwood for pizza and back home for another great night of chatting and telling stories – how wonderful!
