Road Trip Day – YEA!. We packed a lunch and headed west on SR64. Our first stop was the Little Colorado River Gorge. There are two overlooks run by the Navajo. We decided to visit the first one.
The Little Colorado River is approximately 275 miles long. Its headwaters are near Nutrioso, Arizona and it joins the Colorado River at the south end of Marble Canyon where the Grand Canyon begins.
Here is the gorge – flat lands all around and then the gorge – WOW!
Notice the people on the left:
We continued on our way to the east entrance of the Grand Canyon – to one of the areas that we had never been. First stop was the visitor center at Desert View and the Watch Tower. The tower was designed by Mary Colter who designed many of the buildings in the Grand Canyon as well as the La Posada Hotel in Winslow.
We walked thru the gift shop and up the stairs:
Into the tower itself – WOW!
Between the paintings on each level and then the views – oh my!:
From there, we took the Desert View Drive to a few of the overlooks. The watchtower in the distance:

There are no words to describe this place. Every view is jaw dropping BEAUTIFUL!
We made our way to the Tusayan Ruins where we went thru the museum and took the tour around the ruins.
