August 6, 2007 – Travel to the End of the Road

WIND!!!

Around 2:30 this morning, we awoke to the motor home shaking – MY OH MY!!! The wind was really blowing. (Actually I thought it was an earthquake at first – scary.)

We finally did get some more sleep but it was still very windy when we got up. The skies were clearing and we did start to see the sun.

We traveled today to the northwest corner of the Kenai Peninsula. The route took us along the Cook Inlet with incredible views of the Aleutian Islands with their volcanoes.

We are camped at the end of the road in the Discovery Campground of Captain Cook State Recreation Area. (The road ends and there is the recreation area!)

This is the view from the bluff about 50 feet from the end of our campsite:

We put chairs on the bluff and just watched the water and tides and mountains – life doesn’t get any better than this…

And the best part is the day remained sunny and warm with beautiful blue skies – Oh, my!!! (And another great campfire!)
