August 5, 2007 – Our last day in Homer

We woke this morning to more clouds and rain so we decided to do the laundry (they had WiFi so I updated the blog for 8/1-4/07).

This afternoon we went to the Islands and Oceans Visitor Center. There were many exhibits and video on the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge such as the Native Alaskans and their relationship with the islands and marine life, the effect of WWII, seabird cities (some have over 1 million birds) and the past and present research to restore the natural communities on the islands.

There was a nature trail to Bishop’s Beach with plaques of information along the way – on the forest, birds, and the wetlands. (And the rain had stopped!) A picture of the wetlands:
This was another great museum!

By late afternoon, the skies had cleared and the sun came out – YEA!!!

We had another great supper over the campfire. Our neighbor, a retired principal from Hawaii, came to visit and we had a great time chatting.

And another visit from our eagle:
