August 4, 2007 – Kachemak Bay and Otter Cove

We woke again to more rain and were concerned because we made reservations for a wildlife cruise of Kachemak Bay with lunch at Otter Cove (across the bay).

So we took off in the rain. Some pictures:

We stopped by a bird nesting site. The rock (note the thing on top – it is a remote camera for the Pratt Museum for observing the birds):

The nesting birds – gulls (4 different kind); murres; puffins; and I am not sure what else:

The boat stopped here for a while and it was neat to see all of them and the chicks.

More murres:

Lunch was at Otter Cove. There are no roads on this side of the bay. People do live here and must boat or water taxi to their homes.

Pictures from Otter Cove:

We did see a sea otter but no pictures - one day I hope to get some good pictures of them!

After we got back, we walked around the shops and the small boat harbor here at the Spit:

And spent the evening relaxing and deciding when and where we will go next – still not sure (although we would like a little more sun/warmth and less clouds and rain - :-)).

The rain did clear up and we did have some sun over the glaciers around 8 PM. No fire tonight – it was a little too cold.
