August 3, 2007 – A beautiful day in Homer

We woke to sun – YEA!! A beautiful day.

When the tide went out, I decided to take a walk to the edge of the rocks (yes, I was careful!!). Some pictures:

A view of our motorhome from the end of the rocks – the tide really goes down!!!

The salmon are on the move. When I was at the rock edge, they were just jumping out of the water – it was amazing to watch. They just launched themselves – some up to 2 feet out of the water and then splashed down again. I was able to get one picture (they are huge!!!).

Since it was so nice, we decided to check out Bishop’s Beach and then Skyline Drive.
A black bear crossed our path – he was big!!

Here is Bishop’s Beach (at low tide). This was one of the beaches hard hit by the oil spill. Imagine watching the oil come in and not being able to do anything. It was real powerful for us to stand there and just imagine what it must have been like….

Here are some views from Skyline Drive…

The glacier across the bay (this one is also from the Harding Ice Field – considered to be an alpine glacier):

The Homer Spit (sandbar extending out from the land – it is actually a glacial moraine):

Our MH on the Homer Spit (yes that spit is almost 5 miles long):

We also drove to Anchor Point which is:
