The road beyond Avalanche was open to hikers and bicyclists only but they also shut that down today because of the avalanches on the road. Can you imagine – June 1st and avalanches – incredible.
The lake in the pictures is Lake McDonald. It is 10 miles long and 472 feet deep and considered a glacial lake (carved out by immense glaciers). It is very clear, very blue and depending on how the sunlight hits it, very turquoise. The snow from the mountains feeds the streams that go into the lake and those streams were running fast!!!

After our tour of the road, we decided to take the kayak to the lake. We have an inflatable Sea-Eagle 330 and it works for us. It was such a great time, but we kept near the shore line. My paranoia because of the water being so deep and so cold. A picture from the kayak:
