September 23, 2010 – Kansas and Wind

Today our travels were mostly on the interstate because of the winds, rain, and storms coming through the area.

This part of Kansas was a continuation of the rolling hills of Missouri.  The only difference was a lot less trees:

And a lot more prairie:

More wind:

Did you notice the old windmill in the center of the above picture?  What a contrast – old and new wind power and they both work – :-))).

We are staying at the Sylvan Park Campground – an Army Corp of Engineer campground - on Lake Wilson.  Our site:

We are camped below the dam.  If you look at the above picture, the green in the background is the dam.   There is only a few of us in the campground – waiting out the wind and rain that continued until around 7 PM.  Tomorrow we expect to do a little sightseeing around the area so stay tuned.

Miles Traveled: 180 Miles

Routes Traveled:

Kansas: Rock Creek Road; Dam Road; 22nd Street; Thompsonville Road, US-24, US-75; I-70; SR-232; SR-181
