We decided not to go too far today (just in case). So this morning, I went to the bank and Walmart. Back home, we packed up and left.
We have traveled all over the US. Besides Alaska and the route thru Canada, we are going to be traveling one of my favorite highways: US-70 to Alamogordo and US-54 to US-40. When I think about why I love this highway..I truly do not have a reason. I will be taking lots of pictures but really recommend. If you have the chance, take this route.
Today’s route was US-70 to Alamogordo.
Up and over the mountain we go:
In 2009, there was no 4 lane highway. We traveled a 2 lane road and came thru a town called Organ – because those mountain are the Organ Mountains.

Now going the other side – we are going into the White Sands Missile Range:
Into the Valley:
Just an FYI – this valley is over 4500’ above sea level. It is hard for me to wrap my brain around that number. My house is 800’ above sea level. I always thought that 4500’ would be mountainous and it is like a plateau!:

Coming into Alamogordo:
We arrived at the Elks, checked in and hung out the rest of the day. I worked on our route since it changed a little, and updated some of the blog. It was a nice relaxing end of a day.
Tomorrow we head north and east (I hope) so stay tuned and enjoy today.
Today’s stats:
Miles Traveled: 65 Miles
Routes Traveled:
New Mexico: Elks Drive; US-70; Panamera Blvd.; Hamilton Blvd..
