June 5, 2013 - Wildlife and Antlers

I opened our shades this morning and could it be - Mr. Moose was back - Smile.   So out I went with camera in hand:

Notice the moose on the left.  Well this gentleman got out of his tent, turned around and the look on his face was priceless:

Hello:

This is through our front window - the moose is in the center of the left window - how cool is that!

Isn’t he cute?

So after I calmed down, we packed a lunch and off we went on the outer loop.  We first past this little group:

I think this is a neat picture of Andy at the overlook:

Our next stop was the Cunningham Cabin Historic Site. The cabin and surrounding land was established as the Bar Flying U Ranch by J. Pierce Cunningham in the 1880’s  The Cabin is one of the best of the few remaining homestead cabins in Jackson Hole.

We had a brochure on the cabin and farm area and we walked the fence line.

Many irrigation ditches:

Lots of squirrels too:

Our next stop was Elk Ranch Flats Turnout and we probably spent an hour there.  We saw many pronghorn:

And Buffalo:

And even Elk but they were too far away.  We got out the binoculars and just watched all the animals - it was wonderful!

Further on up the road was Oxbow Bend:

Where Andy had a visitor:

And Jackson Lake where we had our picnic lunch:

Then stopped at their visitor center and general store.

We also went up to the Colter Bay Campground.  We were thinking of leaving our spot on Friday and moving to that campground but after looking it over, I like where we are now - lots more space! So we decided to stay a few more days and then head to Yellowstone.

On our way back, we saw two young male elk - just starting their antlers:

Back home, we talked with Ann and Roy and decided to explore Jackson Hole downtown and grab some dinner there.  We ate at the Town Square Tavern - great burgers and then walked around:

These arches are on each side of the town square:
