This year it seems that all roads lead to Yuma – LOL. Initially we considered heading east but it was too cold and weather wise, well, Yuma is the place to be.
February 1 - Tuesday
When we arrived here yesterday, 31st, we made a stop at one of the local pharmacies to pick up an antihistamine to help with my current situation. Well, you just can’t pick them off the shelf anymore. So I picked up a card and went to the pharmacy and my oh my, I was all but fingerprinted – LOL. I was only buying 5 pills – what has this world come to – WOW! Anyway, I started today (along with the current antibiotics) and we will see what happens.
Today was a busy day with doing the laundry and getting all our grocery shopping done before the winds start up. The same weather pattern that is affecting all of the US will be here with cooler temps and winds. And the winds started up late in the day – not sure what the gusts were but we pulled in our slide and were still rocking and rolling…
February 2 – Wednesday
Kay and Norval left Quartzsite the day before us and are renting a lot in the Foothills. So this afternoon, we stopped over and had a great time chatting. And we hope to see them again sometime this weekend…
When we got back to the motor home, we saw a lot of smoke in the fields. We found out later that it was to help the crops avoid a frost – tonight it will be around 29 degrees – brrrr….
February 3 – Thursday
We woke today to the heavy smell of smoke and it was all around us. And I could breath even with the smoke..so these antihistamines must really be working. YEA!!!
Andy and I treated ourselves to an afternoon movie including movie theater popcorn (Yum, even though it has thousands of calories….LOL). We saw “Little Fockers” - very funny.
Afterwards we stopped at the Wal-Mart Pharmacy for more antihistamines – same routine – WOW. Now it gets better. They were out of the 15 count packages so I asked for 2 of the 10 count – was told that they could only sell me one package. Okay, so next question is when can I get more. Are you ready for this – in 15 days. LOL!!! I tried to explain that this package only has 10 pills not 15 and she shrugged her shoulder and told me that is the law. What??? How much sense does that make!!! (For those of you who don’t know, this is an over the counter medication that was being used to make meth. Sometime over the last few years, it has become semi-controlled. So you don’t need a prescription but you could only buy so much at the pharmacy and your ID is put into some type of database… My oh my!!).
February 4 – Friday
We woke to 30 degrees this morning and the smell of smoke. The good thing is this is the last night of below freezing temps and by Sunday it will be 80 degrees – YaHoo!!
We met up with Larry, Cheryl, Sharon and John at the Arizona Marketplace and had a great time. It became a semi-girls/semi-boys day which was wonderful for both Andy and I. We had a wonderful time just wandering around and chatting. Afterwards we all went to lunch at Da Boyz. It was good to see them and hopefully we will see them again next season.
The past week, it is almost like we are saying our goodbyes again for another season – :-(((. Gosh, where did the time go.
February 5 – Saturday
Our first order of the day was to go into the Elks in Yuma and dump our black and grey tanks and fill our water tank. It is said that when a bunch of RVers get together, eventually the topic of black and grey water tanks comes up and this is one of those times that I will talk about it in the blog. Who knew that black tanks are made differently – not us, that’s for sure. With our other motor home, the Flair, we knew how we could use it and when it needed to be dumped. We could go 10-14 days when we boondocked because we did not need a lot of water. And we assumed (?) the same thing would be with the Bounder. Well, our 3rd day in Quartzsite, we had a blockage that took LOTS of WATER to unblock and we come to find out that we have a sort of “shelf” that goes from the toilet to the tank. So now we need more water than we are use to just to flush. (And I need to thank Wendy and Gretchen for educating us on this – Thank you!!).
Anyway, we lasted 5 days in Quartzsite before we had to dump and today, Saturday, was our next dump – 10 days – and no blockage…so I guess we are getting better. Who knew that the path way to the “stinky” tanks are different – LOL!!!
This afternoon/early evening we spent with Kay and Norval and Nancy and Brian – enjoying the sunshine and having a great potluck dinner. It was great to spend time with them again and we did not say goodbye, just see you in a few months – :-)))
February 6 – Sunday
We met Peggy and Larry at the Quechan Casino for breakfast – it was so good to see them again and get caught up. Afterwards, we went back to where they are camped and Larry lent Andy a tool to help him loosen the tire bolts. Apparently Fisher Chevrolet used an impact wrench to tighten and Andy could not break loose. So we came back, loosened them up and took it back to Larry. Larry and Peg, thank you so so much for your help.
We made a stop to see Sandy and Raul but no one was home. (Sorry, Sandy – we will see you next season.)
And we came back and watched the Super Bowl – great game!! But I thought the halftime show, lacked a lot compared to other years – :-((((.
February 7 – Monday
Yesterday, we got a call from Andy’s brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Marcia. They left NJ a week ago and were going to spend some time in Texas but the weather there was not good. So they came out to Yuma to get warm. They pulled in late this afternoon and we had a great time getting caught up with each other.
February 8 – Tuesday
We woke to an early phone call from Discover. Apparently someone stole our number and started charging a number of items over the internet. So for now, no card. Oh well.
Marcia and Bill have a black Lab, Auggie, and a cat, Klinker, (similar to Dusty) so this morning we introduced Dusty to both. He did very well with Auggie since this is the first time he was this close to a large dog (he does real well with small dogs). But Klinker wanted no parts of Dusty so we will try again tomorrow.
Then after lunch, we took Marcia and Bill on a road trip to see some of the BLM lands around Yuma. Our first stop was the Imperial Dam area. We even saw six wild donkeys (and no camera – can you believe it!.) (Sharon and John, we stopped by but you were out – sorry.)
From there we went to Betty’s Kitchen, Mittry Lake, and Redondo Pond areas. We will be leaving the area shortly and they will be staying around so we were able to show them some options (I think, Mittry Lake won out – :-))).
February 9 – Wednesday
Today, Marcia and I just hung out while the guys did some errands and exploring around Yuma. It was great to sit in the sun and watch Dusty and Auggie check each other out. At one point, Dusty rolled around in the sand right by Auggie – so cute. Klinker came out, looked at Dusty and went back in…oh well, we will try it again some other time.
Tomorrow we will be heading our separate ways but it was a nice surprise to see them and spend some time together.
For those of you who like my pictures, sorry I have not included any. The reason – I haven’t taken any…. No excuses, except my health. And speaking of that, the antihistamines with the antibiotics have really, really helped. The antibiotics ended on 2/9 so we will see what happens now. I am continuing on the antihistamines as long as there are helping..
Thanks to all who have sent well wishes. I am really a weakling when it comes to being sick and I do feel guilty for that. There are so many people who deal with serious illnesses and pain on a daily basis and still lead full lives. HMMM, something I need to work on… :-)))!
