January 1, 2009 – Happy New Year

We woke this morning to 22 degrees and by 12 it was 75 degrees – WOW! This is definitely the desert.

Since we are close to the oil wells, we were told that sometimes we may smell a methane gas-like odor. Well this morning, our propane detector kept going off and we couldn’t figure out why until we walked outside. We could smell the methane from the wells. It didn’t last long. Our detector is very sensitive – it even goes off every time I clean the kitchen floor…

We are going to do some exploring over the next few days – Carlsbad Caverns is to our south and Roswell is to the north. We have a number of brochures and what is so tough is deciding what we will see. There seems to be never enough time but I guess that is life. The older I get, the more I realize how precious each moment is.

We went to the soup lunch at the club house and happy hour at 4 and met even more great people. The sun has now set and the temperature is dropping again – how different.

We will be doing exploring tomorrow so I will get some pictures.

Until then...
