First a Cat Update – our Dusty has stopped hissing and growling at the little one and just follows her around so we are making progress - .
Today we decided to tour the Trace – what we started to do on Saturday when we found the little kitty.
Our first stop was in the quaint town of Grand Rivers:
We were told that this was a magnolia tree:
There are over 200 cemeteries in Land Between the Lakes – some of them still in use:
Here lies Andrew Jackson Smith:
This was a small cemetery with many veteran graves – from the Civil War thru the Vietnam War.
This monument below was in a different cemetery – very unusual:
What a nice memorial:
I enjoy going thru old cemeteries and wonder about the stories and history of the people there. Did you ever hear of the poem “The Dash” by Linda Ellis? It talks about the dash between our birth and death and what we do with it – what I call our story. It is about living our life to the fullest. (I could not find my copy nor a copy on the internet – sorry.) If you get a chance, Google it – there may be a free copy out there to read.
Pictures along the way:
As we were standing on the shoreline, two turtles poked their heads up out of the water. But as we walked closer, away they went – how funny -
Just hanging out:
Many iron furnaces in this area – this is one of the ruins and information about it:
And more:
What a beautiful place – so much to see and do. This is definitely on our come back list and spend more time.
We enjoyed one last campfire here before we head west tomorrow.
Stay tuned and live your dash.
