May 28, 2008 – Travel Day

Our travels today took us thru the beautiful rolling hills of Virginia into the traffic around Washington, DC, across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to the Eastern Shores of Maryland.

We had originally planned on going further south and coming up the eastern shores of Virginia but made the decision to go thru the DC traffic to save mileage (and gas). (Gas prices in VA have risen $0.40/gallon since we arrived here.)

We camped at Tuckahoe State Park in Maryland (another wonderful little gem). Here is our campsite:

Since it was such a beautiful day, we walked around the campground and took the trail to the Lake.

The Lake:

On the trail (notice the tall pines):

Mountain Laurel in full bloom:

More flowers in the park (not sure of the type but I loved the contrast of this flowering bush among the greens):

And another great campfire!!!

Miles Traveled: 209 miles
Routes Traveled:
VA: US-33; US-29; I-66
MD: I-495, US-50; MD-404 (Seashore Highway)
