On Wednesday evening, we received a call that our close friend Bob had a stroke and was not doing well. After a long discussion Andy and I both felt the need to go back to PA. So after a pretty sleepless night, we got up early and headed east.
Seeing this rainbow when we first started made us realize we made the right decision.
But by 11 AM, the winds, the storms and the wind advisories on our route got the best of us. So we are at the Route 66 park (an Escapes 50% off park) by Holbrook. AZ for the rest of the day and night. We just hung out, rocking and rolling in the wind, watching it rain and lightening and listening to the thunder – Yikees.

We woke to a beautiful day – sunshine and no wind and we were on the road early. Five years ago today I started this blog – hard to believe. Today we also completed one of the circles from our trip. We left this campground (Enchanted Trails) on October 13, 2012 and headed to northern NM, then AZ. Interesting.
And the road goes on:
We camped at a nice little city park in San Jon, NM – free – :-):

We put in a long day yesterday to get thru some major cities – the last one being Nashville and were we glad. Listening to the early news about the traffic jams, we were thanking God that we did go thru to the east side of Nashville last night.
We woke this morning to temps in the 60’s but the humidity – wow – we are not use to this. But it does produce some beautiful fog:
We made our way into Virginia:
In the above picture is the Shenandoah Mountains – where we started this trip – Shenandoah National Park. May have to take a few trips there while we are in the East.
And thank you again to Wal-Mart where we spent the night (in Harrisonburg, VA).
