July 6-7, 2009 Travel Days

July 6, 2009

We left Seward this morning to the smell of smoke – fires burning on the Kenai Peninsula and the weather was just right for the smoke to be blowing in..

After stopping at the dump -emptying our tanks and filling the fresh water tank, we were on our way.  We pulled in to Eagle River State Campground early afternoon, then went to town to do laundry.  Back at the motor home, we just relaxed and had another great campfire.

This morning we stopped at Wal-Mart for some groceries, then to the Tesoro for gas, dumping, and water and we were on our way.

Our travels today took us to the town of Talkeetna and we will be here at the Talkeetna RV/Boat Launch Campground until at least Sunday.

The campground is kind of rustic but we did get a nice site:

Downtown is only a 5 minute walk which we did after supper and checked out a few places.

This is one of the historic cabins – it is called the Three German Bachelor Cabin and dates back to 1934.  It is believed to have been inhabited by 3 German bachelors who came to America and lived here between mining sessions…

We finished the evening with another wonderful campfire…

Just a note on the weather – it is beautiful but for us – HOT.  Today it hit 85 degrees – oh my!!  And we are not used to that.  It should be real interesting when we decide to spend a summer at home in PA!!
