April 13, 2016 From Arizona to New Mexico

After saying our “See You Laters” to Sue, Bruce, Mary and Mike, we hooked up and headed east toward the Dragoon Mountains:

The mountains are called the Organ Mountains.  Some of those peaks are over 8000’ – pretty impressive, aren’t they:

We have done this drive from the east to the west a few times.  This is the first time that we did the west to the east – just beautiful.

Here is White Sands National Monument (we toured the Monument in 2013 – here is the link to that blog: http://thehitzels.blogspot.com/2013/04/april-14-2013-white-sands-national.html)

We settled in at the local Elks lodge – $15.00 for full hookups.  We thought they were serving a meal tonight but it was ladies night.  Sounded good to me but it was a dress up affair – not today!

The scenery and weather was incredible today.  Hope that continues on our way.  We continue our journeys tomorrow so stay tuned and enjoy today.

Stats for today:

Miles Traveled: 297 Miles

Routes Traveled:

Arizona: SR-80; I-10

New Mexico: I-10; US-70; Panorama Blvd; Hamilton Road

As many times as we've travelled that route, we've never stopped at the White Sands Missile Base. It took us about 3 or 4 pass bys before we did the White Sands National Park.
