June 3, 2013 Travel to Grand Teton National Park

After an uneventful night at Wal-Mart, we headed first to get fuel and off we went.  The scenery continues to WOW us.

Lots of snow fences - brrrrrr.

The pictures do not show the immenseness of this part of the country.  Many areas remind me of Alaska.

As we went down this road, we saw what we thought was smoke on the right side:

Turns out it was a sheep stampede that went for about 2 miles - LOTS of sheep:

Don’t know what startled them but they were moving!

We went thru Kemmerer which is the birthplace of JC Penney.  This is the mother store that is still in business.  We did not stop because they were not open but will do so next time.

Andy and I were here by car in 1997.  This is where we had our first balloon ride - in the Snake River Valley with the Tetons next to us.

We settled in the Gros Ventre (pronounce Gro-vant) Campground.  Lots of space and very nice.  The Gros Ventre River is about 100’ behind us:

Say hi to the Elk Refuge for me while you are in the area. I almost took a volunteer position there for this summer.

Did you know that you have both word verification and blog owner approval on your comment section? Seems like overkill to me and that word verification thing is a real pain.

I'm so excited to see your photos because we are in Lander, WY about 100 miles away from you. How long are you going to be there - we might catch up with you.

We're in Lander, WY just 100 miles from you. How long are you staying at that park? Maybe we'll catch up.

Hi Judy and Emma, The Elk Refuge looked beautiful but all the elk have migrated. I would like to come back when they are here - must be beautiful.
As far as the blog comments go...I was getting a lot of spam and tired of deleting them soooo it was either work verification or stop comments altogether. Feel free to send me an email if that works better for you.
Safe travels.
