December 4, 2008 – Country Music Hall of Fame and Studio B

I love the traveling but there are times after 3 days on the road that it is nice to just relax in the morning. Plus we gained an extra hour – we are in Central Time and did not know it.

We spent most of our day at the Country Music Hall of Fame, with a side trip to Studio B and Tootsie’s on Broadway for lunch (another place that has music all day).

The Country Music Hall of Fame:

The second floor had an exhibit on Hank Williams and his family complete with outfits, videos, letters, etc. The third floor and part of the second floor told the history of country music. Many of the stars have donated some of their outfits:

Johnny Cash (Man in Black):

There were kiosks of stories and music and a neat movie on country music and TV. There were many artists that are considered country that I thought were rock and roll artists.

Elvis’s car:
Elvis’s gold plated piano:

The walls of gold/platinum records:

In the middle of the day, we took the side trip to RCA Studio B. Over 1000 top ten hits were recorded in this studio including over 100 of Elvis’s hits. Some of the hits include Cathy’s Clown by the Everly Brothers, Only the Lonely by Roy Orbison, Jolene by Dolly Parton, Are You Lonesome Tonight by Elvis Presley, and Green, Green Grass of Home by Porter Wagoner. The studio:

The piano is the original piano. Our tour guide told us that Elvis wanted to buy this piano many times but RCA would not sell it.

Some of the recording equipment:

The studio is still used for specialty recordings and mixes. Right now they are putting together duets with Elvis. Many of today’s stars have recorded and they are doing mixes with Elvis’s songs. We were told that the CD would be out before Christmas.

It was a wonderful day!

Tomorrow night we have tickets for the Grand Ole Opry so stay tuned.
