May 4, 2008 – On the Road Again

We are off on our next great adventure. Our first stop is the George Washington National Forest – Elizabeth Furnace Recreation Area – near Front Royal, VA.

Our campsite:

The campground sewage and water system is currently shut down due to issues, however there is one hand pump near the entrance. The campground itself is beautiful and only 31 sites. They have an area for 2 campground hosts but so far they are not manned due to the water/sewage issue.

After supper (on the campfire, of course), we took a walk around the campground and day use area. Here are some pictures:

Passage Creek and bridge:

Bogs and bridge:

The Elizabeth Furnace Cabin:

The cabin is actually a combination of buildings from the original community that was here when pig iron was produced in the 1800’s.

My Andy - well look at the sign!

And we finished off the evening just sitting around the fire!

Hey, you're close to my neck of the woods. Hope the weather isn't too bad for your trip. Starting to really hate all this rain.
